Htein Lin: Picking up the Pieces – A Show of Installations-
01 230 6142
Htein Lin’s exhibition in July/August 2015 at the Goethe-Villa was one of the most important art events in Yangon in the past ten years.
Before they close the old building for the renovation work in October they would like to invite for a second showing of Htein Lin’s most recent works. They shed light on a critical view of the rapid changes affecting all areas and stages of life in today’s Myanmar.
This transformation stops at nothing, while many established and reliable ways, are falling to pieces. Htein Lin considers it a privilege and a duty of the artist to “pick up the pieces”, to put them in a new order and to present them to his contemporaries, who far too willingly forget the past. That blind belief in that what people imagine as progress will create new contradictions – seeming to many a truism. But Htein Lin’s four large-scale installations presented in their exhibition avoid any platitude. Rooted in the past they shed a sharp light on the vibrant present and the labile future.
The opening of the exhibition will be on August,18th at 7 PM at the Goethe-Villa.
