YANGON, JUNE 2nd, 2016 – A profound political shift has taken place in Myanmar. While its new government has only just settled in, the promise it offers to continue to excite its people and the global investment community. What are the government’s economic policy? What initiatives can be implemented now? How will the new government build its policymaking and administrative capacity? These are some of the questions that will be answered by the featured speakers at the second edition of The Economist Events’ Myanmar Summit at Sedona Hotel Yangon on June 16th 2016.
While Myanmar faces tremendous obstacles on its road to development, the opportunities are greater still. Myanmar has been afforded a “last-mover advantage” unique among Asia’s developing economies. It can learn from the successes and failures of its neighbours’ struggles to grow and modernise, as well as benefit directly from their infrastructure and financial investment. Myanmar has a chance to choose new modes of development and to form relationships with foreign investors in ways that allow it to build its economy inclusively, sustainably and equitably.
Myanmar Summit 2016 will assemble the nation’s decision-makers, advocates, entrepreneurs and investors to discuss how to build and maintain the path to growth.
Featured speakers include:
- Dr. Pe Myint, Myanmar’s union minister of information
- Scot Marciel, United States Ambassador to Myanmar
