If you love books, I’m very sure you will love coffee too! The book cafe culture in Yangon has arised with good intentions for both coffee lovers and bookworms in the past few years. Here are some of the bookstores for those who want to lose themselves in books and of course, coffee is the bonus!
Innwa Books & Cafe
Innwa bookstore has been a good friend for book lovers in Yangon since 1993. In the last decades, Innwa bookstores can be found on the sidewalk in Pansodan and Hledan, showcasing numerous books. After 22 years, Innwa decided to change the way of a classic bookstore, upgrading it into a modernized bookshop with a cafe. At the Innwa Books & Cafe at Myanmar Plaza, you can see comfy chairs lying around, where the readers can read books and chill with a cup of coffee from Innwa’s inexpensive little cafe. Plus, their 4th outlet at the new Times City Mall is coming soon!

Yangon Book Plaza
Min Lu and Myay Hmone Lwin, two of the best authors in Myanmar, would talk about Min Lu’s short novel “The Media Supermarket” and dreamt of opening a bookstore just like that one day. About 6 years later, Myay Hmone Lwin finally established Yangon Book Plaza, a collection of numerous bookstores together with cafes, restaurants and recreation areas. Officially opened in February 2017, Yangon Book Plaza has become a hideout for book lovers where thousands of books are displayed on vintage bookstalls. You can explore, read or have coffee and snacks in one place.

Imperial Cafe and Book
This small and cozy cafe will give you friendly vibes where you can chill and relax with books and coffee. Asian and European style breakfast and lunch is also available for you to enjoy with your drinks. You can also find games such as Uno, Rubik’s Cube and many others to release your boredom. Despite being located on the busy U Wisara Road, Imperial Cafe is a relaxing place with a chilling atmosphere where you can enjoy your alone time or hang out with your friends.

The Plant House Cafe
Wouldn’t it be so relaxing to read your favourite book with a good cup of coffee surrounded by plants? The Plant House Cafe makes sure that you get to experience it at their tropical decor style cafe,decorated with plants. The cafe quotes itself as a place for book lovers, home gardeners, coffeegeek and foodie. You can find various kinds of books and plants there, along with their speciality classic brews such as Yay Win and Long Hay coffee from Shan State.

Sarpay Lawka The Central
Located at the Central Boulevard that was recently opened, Sarpay Lawka The Central is the latest Sarpay Lawka outlet that has been upgraded to make it differ from the old ones. The first Sarpay Lawka outlet was established in 1956 and has been one of the most popular bookstores in Myanmar since. This newest outlet includes varieties of English and Myanmar books, different kinds of postcards, stationery plus a cafe for the readers to enjoy their books with coffee. Overlooking the view of beautiful Inya Lake in front, Sarpay Lawka at the Central Boulevard is another heaven for book lovers to live in their dreams.

Just as its name says, you can get everything at OMNi; food, drinks, books and movies. With the widest variety of books to choose from, you can either read books and chill with a cup of coffee or rent any book that you want with the member card plan that OMNi offers. You can also get high quality movie data and action figures of your favourite Marvel or DC characters. OMNi serves a wide range of food and drinks to the customers- Asian, European, desserts and a lot more. Unlike other bookstore cafes, OMNi provides book delivery service to the whole country.
