Residents of Thanlyin’s Star City won’t have to travel far for a good cup of Myanmar tea with the opening of a new diner.

Wah Tea Shop is located in the former place of Irrawaddy Pizza Co and meshes a traditional Yangon tea shop and a Cantonese-style cha chaan teng commonly found in Hong Kong.

Wah Tea, a play on words for the Myanmar saying war dee (meaning ‘let’s eat’), serves tasty samosas, spring rolls, steamed rice noodle rolls, rice and fish croquettes, and a selection of local salads.Among its other dishes are a range of Cantonese and Myanmar noodle dishes, Chinese rice dishes and sandwiches. Naturally, a list of classic teas such as cho saint and gate sone (1,000 kyats per cup) are available along with bubble tea (2,000 kyats) and other
beverages.

Lifestyle agency Pun + Projects is behind the tea shop—the firm also runs other trendy eateries in Yangon such as Rau Ram, Paribawga and 50th Street Bar. Read April’s MYANMORE Magazine for an exclusive interview with its founder Ivan Pun.
