Balance is the first and only Shiatsu Center in Myanmar, opened in 2008 by a team of deaf students whom have been trained by Italian teachers for more than five years to a professional standard. The project for the creation of the Shiatsu Center has been run at the Mary Chapman School for the Deaf and has been organized and supported by the Italian npo “SHARE – Human Life Project”. Shiatsu is a traditional Chinese massage based on acupuncture points of a human body. While this path of study and practice has greatly improved the deaf children’s knowledge and skills in the practice of natural methods for health, it has also give them a chance to emancipate themselves, to become a role model for other students and to represent a precious resource for the whole community.
