An 80-year-old door from Chinatown forms the centerpiece of the bar, while wood from an old barn acts as the tables in the non-smoking room, an area of rattan chairs flooded with natural light. The famous big bright yellow smiley face of Happy Cafe & Noodles can be found in quite a few venues in town. The most enjoyable setting is in the garden of the beautiful colonial building which shelters the inya Road Branch. Their patio is the place to go for some relaxing drinks and a couple of shared plates of Myanmar foods. Their menu focuses on Myanmar snacks, rice and noodles but offers Western options too (and cheap cocktails).
This garden is located beside Inya Lake. There is also a romantic restaurant known as Sein Lan So Pyay, which offers a variety of food and drinks.
A trendy cafe` that sits in a phone shop in downtown Yangon, Coffee Club offers authentic European coffee as well as a range of sandwiches and cookies from Yangon Bakehouse.
Inside the Karaweik Park, Nervin Cafe sits pleasantly on a hill overlooking Kandawgyi Lake. It’s a calm pleasant spot to spend the day and usually offers a pleasant breeze from the lake. There is also a very good and reasonably priced casual menu with a selections of pizza, pastas, paninis and gelato.
One of the long-standing cafe`s in Yangon, Coffee Circles has fallen a bit behind as other rivals have opened up. There’s a reasonable selection of western and Asian food – some good, some less so.
This quaint tea house is the place to go to try out exclusive blends of tea. Set A is for two people and includes unlimited teapot refrill along with scones and cream, four different types of cake, two sorts of sandwiches and even a mini-chicken burger. Set B is for four people and is more or less set A timed by two. Ask to explore the house (including outdoor areas) before sitting down: it is full of hidden gems and each room has its own character.
Ananda Coffee and Cocoa is a cafe/restaurant that offers organic Arabica coffee harvested from their own plantation near Pyin Oo Lwin in Myanmar. You can also buy whole or ground coffee beans to brew in the comfort of your home.
The Muses is great choice for lunch or coffee. Decor is classic, it’s a lovely and quite place with outdoor seating.
There are two wonderful things about the Yangon Bakehouse. The first is that they are a social enterprise that train and educate disadvantaged women, the second is their fantastic food. There’s a terrific variety of baked goods; all made to quite wonderful standards.
If you are looking for a quite place with pleasant decoration, Cafe Dibar is your place. Numerous pizza and pasta options for a unique western food restaurant as well as Italian dishes. Food comes in big portions at reasonable price.
