The ‘great ideas’ book club is a bi-monthly discussion group which focuses on cutting-edge social science ideas about the world and how we perceive it.
The format will be loose and open for anyone to join at any time. Some of the questions we will discuss include: What social forces have shaped the world we live in today? How can we, as individuals and as a collective, work to make it better? And what will the impacts of climate change and new technology be on human society?
Although we will try to have lively and intellectual debates, the books chosen will be accessible and relatively easy to read for a well-informed audience. This reading group will be particularly interesting for young professionals and students who are interested in expanding their intellectual horizons.
Current: We will begin with the book “Guns, Germs and Steel,” by Jared Diamond and cover it in one month (four meetings). Please read the first five chapters by February 23rd.
We meet weekly on Sundays at 11am at Dice Society board game cafe.
