Some favorites we know are taking the holiday off this year: Kone Myint Thar Restaurant, Bar Ah So, Burma Bistro, Le Planteur, Echo Dining, and Bon Bon. Mark your calendars for their return after the festival.

A Few Tips for Dining Out During Thingyan

Call ahead to confirm hours, and plan your route around main pandal areas to avoid the heaviest water-throwing zones.

When in doubt, head to a hotel. Yangon’s hotels are always a reliable bet during Thingyan — their restaurants, coffee shops, and lounges typically stay open throughout the holiday to serve in-house guests, and walk-ins are usually welcome too. Sule Eravati, Strand Hotel, Inya Lake Hotel, Novotel Max Yangon, Sule Shangri-La, Lotte Hotel, Pan Pacific, and Melia Yangon all keep their dining outlets running, often with festive menus. If your favourite restaurant is closed and you’re not sure where to go, the nearest hotel lobby is rarely a wrong answer.

Wishing you a joyful, delicious, and refreshingly cool Thingyan from all of us at Myanmore.
