Union Day is a public holiday in Myanmar, observed annually on February 12th, to commemorate the historic Panglong Agreement of 1947, a pivotal step towards the country’s independence.
The agreement, signed by General Aung San and ethnic leaders, aimed to unify the diverse ethnic groups of Burma (now Myanmar) and establish a foundation for a newly independent nation. Though the agreement’s promises weren’t fully realized, it remains a symbol of national unity and the aspirations for a united Myanmar.
The Union Day is marked by celebrations and ceremonies.
