In the era of technology, the challenge all the handmade artists have been facing was never an easy one, trying to influence the movement of arts and crafts over social media.
However, Myanmar’s next generations of artisans could push the handcraft community while using social media brilliantly. The scope of local handmade crafts has been broadened and many groups have appeared where talented artists are willing to share their knowledge by offering workshops, classes both online and offline.
Among countless groups, Lat Mhu Club is one active community which was founded in November 2020 with the intention to support and promote the work of local artisans. Sustainable development goals such as no poverty, quality education, decent work and economic growth are the main driving forces for their vision.
Lat Mhu Club organized monthly training classes, workshops, seminars and also participated in programs abroad such as Social Enterprise Development Program by ASEAN Foundation.
One unique thing about Lat Mhu Club is that they were able to organize courses such as Kanote drawing, traditional art, paper quilling and origami making courses which are rare to join.
At the moment, they are trying to get young people to take handicraft classes systematically and efforts will be made to enable both virtual learning and off-line workshops.
Being the main host, online events like virtual exhibitions and off-line events such as indoor bazaars were successfully held. They were great steps of Lat Mhu Club.

Half of the profit from the organization will be donated to areas where most needed to support the necessary teaching aids for children with disabilities and to re-train handicrafts as a profession.
Moreover, they are trying to build up “Lat Mhu Shop”, an online e-commerce store, that will be able to sell handicrafts of local artisans not only locally but also abroad.
It would be a better future for the handmade community, if more artisans of diverse arts join the club and build a bigger art world.
