Mango is regarded as the king of fruits in Myanmar. The mango season begins at the start of the rainy season and lasts for two-three months — roughly from May to July.
Where is it grown?
Mango trees can be grown in the backyard in the countryside. They are adored for their shade during the scorching summer. The commercial farms can be found in the central Mandalay Region, Ayeyarwaddy and Shan State.
How many varieties are there?
Myanmar is home to around 100 varieties of mango. The most famous kinds are Sein Ta Lone, Ma Chit Su and Yin Kwal.
Sein Ta Lone is probably the most popular and favoured by many foreigners. Ma Chit Su can be consumed either ripe or green. You might have seen street paddlers with carts selling green mangoes sprinkled with spices. They are usually Ma Chit Su. They are crunchy and sweet and sour in taste while green.

Yin Kwal is less popular but is equally delicious. Its sap can burn your mouth and perhaps this is one of the reasons people tend to avoid it.
Where to find them?
The best way is to visit wet markets or supermarkets and choose your favourite kind. But a more convenient way is through online shops.
