Myanmar Ministry of Health & Sports issued on Monday evening an extension on the closure of factories from October 7 to October 21st, including CMP (import/export), as the country continues to battle the surge of COVID-19 cases and deaths. The suspected high number of asymptomatic people moving around is the cause of this extension.

Myanmar is now facing around 1,000 confirmed cases and 30 deaths EACH DAY. This is a steep daily increase from having a TOTAL of 1,400 cases and fewer than 10 deaths three weeks ago. The health care system is taking a big toll and conference halls and schools are being made into quarantine centres as even suspected cases are being brought in, and likely infected if not already sick. Volunteers are making a great effort supporting the health care workers and running quarantine centres among other activities.
