As the second wave of COVID-19 is hitting Myanmar, especially Yangon, tougher measures are now implemented:
- No domestic flights
- No express bus services
In Yangon, as the COVID-19 hotspot, extra restrictions are being implemented; 28 of 44 townships have stay-at-home orders, and Yangon Region Government has instructed residents to not travel until October 1st. Yangon residents are urged to not leave Yangon without a proper reason, and those leaving are likely to face quarantine in other regions and states.
Enforcement of COVID-19 guidelines will be done at markets and those failing to comply with the instructions could face punishments. Several markets are being asked in different townships to close as the situation develops but necessary shops are staying open.
Social media is making jokes of Yangon quickly developing into “federal states” as streets and townships been putting up roadblocks as in the photos shown below (credit to sources on FB):
As always, don’t panic and take care to not spread the disease or get infected by wearing a mask and washing your hands. When possible support your local businesses and their employees to make sure they also get through this difficult times.
