A new month is upon us and a bunch of new content is coming to Netflix. The streaming giant’s strategy tries to cater to the people of every age and interest and the July line-up is no exception. Read along to see what’s on our watch list.

The most hyped originals for July would perhaps be The Old Guard (10 July) and Cursed. They both feature women as leads and base from comic books. But the similarities end here as the former is a superhero film and the latter medieval coming-of-age series.

The Old Guard

Charlize Theron has starred in some action flicks in her stellar career. The Academy Award winner kicked ass alongside Tom Hardy in the blockbuster Mad Max: Fury Road and opposite James McAvoy in the cold-war thriller Atomic Blonde. In The Old Guard, she plays an immortal warrior, fighting against the evils for centuries right under the nose of unsuspecting people like you and me. I would never get tired of Theron kicking ass but hope it doesn’t turn out as the notorious 2005 live-action Aeon Flux.

Cursed is based on the comic book (or graphic novel if you would) of the same name by Thomas Wheeler and Frank Miller. The 10-episode series narrates the Arthurian legend from the perspective of Nemui, the Lady of the Lake. The 13 Reasons Why-alum Katherine Langford is cast as Nemui with Devon Terrell (Barry, The Professor) as Arthur.

For history buffs, Netflix brings #AnneFrank. Parallel Stories narrated by Helen Mirren. If you want more WW2 context, watch Spielberg’s masterpiece Schindler’s List which is probably the best film ever made

After some Kleenex-inducing moments, brighten your mood with the second season of How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast), a German comedy show about high-schoolers who sell ecstasy online. If you liked History Channel’s Vikings, try Norsemen which approaches the lives of Vikings in a comedic way. It will come back for the third season in July.

JU-ON: Origins

Finally, get ready for some scares as the iconic Japanese horror franchise Ju-On is coming to Netflix with the all-new JU-ON: Origins. The six-part show explores the real-life haunting houses and extraordinary phenomena happened in the past decades in Japan. Nothing beats the feeling of watching a good scary film while it’s raining outside!
