You’re an early riser and love big breakfasts, but can’t deal with all the hustle of fixing one in the kitchen? We got your back. Start your day with these delicious and fulfilling morning meals!

My personal favourite. I often have my breakfast at the 49th street branch on the way to my office. Milk noodle is a go-to option. If you still have room, order some fried chicken wings. Prata and mutton curry or bao is a legit breakfast material. Best paired with tea!

You don’t need to visit Mandalay to try Mandalay food. They have three variations of Nan Gyi Thoke, which originates from Mandalay, depending on the thickness of the noodles. Must-try is pork ribs Mee Shay which comes with thick, yummy pig bone soup. Order banana fritters or naan for dessert and pair it with tea or Pyin Oo Lwin coffee.

Once the 24-hour restaurant famous among clubbers. But now the hours are reduced to 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM during the pandemic. It can no longer satisfy your late-night cravings but Burmese favourites like Mohinga, Kyar Zan Chat (vermicelli in chicken soup) and coconut noodles are still relevant as morning meals.

RTH is famed for daring experimentation with food and bringing low-key street snacks like Mont Lin Mayar (Couple Snack) to the next level by adding premium items like foie gras and caviar. One example is Ganan Gyi Thoke, a wordplay with the beloved breakfast staple Nan Gyi Thoke and Ganan Kyaw (fried soft shell crabs). You may think it’s weird until you try it and fall in love with it.

One of the handfuls of long-living restaurants has been serving the Yangonites for 14 years. Choose from quirky fusion dishes like Salted Fish Spaghetti and more conventional Pork Belly Noodles. Many Myanmar people eat rice for breakfast. If you want to try rice as your first meal of the day, Potato Rice Salad and Kengtung Sausage is a safe bet.

It’s sad to get out of bed early in the morning during the rainy season. Lighten up your mood with well-spiced kebabs, curries and samosas! Its coconut rice is exceptional. But if you think it’s too much for breakfast, go for naan and prata. The food is halal.

Since 1978, Shwe Pu Zun restaurant and cafeteria has been serving and catering to the Yangonites, outliving many of its competitors and ups and downs of the industry. Its main branch in Dawbon is the only one where you can have breakfast. Currently, they only serve takeouts with a limited menu, including Mohinga, spring rolls and noodles. Once it reopens its doors, you should definitely give a visit.
