A recent addition to River Gallery’s family of artists, Jose Abad Lorente, has deep links with the Myanmar art scene. He was instrumental in establishing “MY YANGON MY HOME”, a joyous celebration of the city’s visual art scene.
For Jose, Myanmar has been the latest chapter in a personal journey of artistic experimentation across Asia, which included studying calligraphy in Beijing for some years and running an art space in New Delhi. Intrigued by the intersection of calligraphy, art and language, Jose draws inspiration from Myanmar’s linguistic history, Buddhism and anthropology.
In these intricate yet harmonious series of artworks entitled “Golden Threads” Jose explores the notion of words as lines while paying homage to the beauty of the Myanmar script. He uses a calligraphy brush with Chinese ink and acrylic, on rice paper, mounted on Chinese silk. The works are either framed (pictured) or unframed in a hanging scroll format. Other works from Jose can be seen on River Gallery’s web-site. You can also contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
