On 17 March 2020, The State and Region Government released a statement to shut down clubs, karaoke venues and massage parlors immediately in order to prevent COVID-19 outbreak.

The respective departments of the President Office suspend crowded events and celebrations till the end of April and to increase the suspended period if necessary.

U Zaw Aye Maung, the Minister of Rakhine Ethnic Affairs, stated that it applies to the whole Yangon region and anyone who does not follow the instructions will be charged against the law. He added that they are also planning to implement 188 Law for the government’s proclamations to be more effective.

For the time being, the operation of cinemas has been suspended after proclaiming to suspend public events and celebrations. The Central Committee of Prevention and Precaution of COVID-19, led by the State Counsellor and there has been no confirmed positive COVID-19 case in Myanmar.
