The Ministry of Health and Sports confirmed two new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number to five in Myanmar at 1:45 AM on 27 March 2020.

A 33-year-old Myanmar man, a recent citizen of the United States, arrived in his hometown Mandalay on 19 March 2020 and developed symptoms of the disease, including fever, coughing, and tiredness on 23 March.

He is now under treatment at Kandawadi Hospital and those who had contact with him will be traced, isolated and diagnosed.

Another COVID-19 patient was found in Mingalar Taung Nyunt township in Yangon. A 69 year old man went to Australia last month to seek medication for its nasal cancer and he stayed in Singapore for four days on his way back to Myanmar.

On 18 March 2020, he had fever, cough, and sore throat so he was immediately confined at Yangon General Hospital on Wednesday and quarantined.

As per WHO, the Health Ministry will send the results of these two tests to the accredited laboratory in Thailand for validation.

Officials have traced people who had contact with the previous patients from Chin State and a 26 year old uk returner and they are under quarantine facility now, said Daw Khin Khin Gyi to The Myanmar Times.
