Set aside on the narrow 40th Street, Regulus is a hidden gem in downtown for those who want to enjoy nightlife in Yangon with good food, cocktails and unplugged music.

When Bo Bo Oo, founder of Regulus visited Vietnam a few years ago and he found a bar sandwiched together with a hostel inside an old warehouse then turned out its idea to open his bar – Regulus – in Yangon’s downtown.

You will see a small table or two at the entrance with a graffiti wall where you stalk people on the street with a glass of beer or a cocktail. There aren’t a lot of tables inside but a fairly small stage where you can enjoy the unplugged band 7 days a week.

Steak Roll Up.

“We have European, Asian and Mexican food and most of them are appetizers and light bites for the customers to enjoy with our signature cocktails.” Zarni, the restaurant manager of Regulus, stated that cocktail is the highlight of the bar. “Our mixologist creates not only classic cocktails but also those that are popular in Hong Kong. We have Winter in Pansodan, Queen of 40th Street, Secret Garden and many more which you can only get here in Regulus and they are the most popular ones among the customers.”

Chicken Tacos.

They introduced me with two popular dishes from the menu; Chicken Tacos and Steak Roll Up. Made with grilled chicken and crispy Tortilla chips, Chicken Tacos is a perfect dish to have a quick bite with a glass of beer. Steak Roll Up includes a big portion, which will make you fall in love with its tender grilled beef wrapped inside soft tortilla bread. The mixologist showed her creation with three kinds of cocktails: Vanilla Sky, Secret Garden and Winter in Pansodan, which were both beautiful and delicious.

Secret Garden.

There is Open Mic Night every Monday and Friday, where the guests can sing and have fun with the guitar, drum and organ on the stage. “The bar is more crowded on those two days because of that open mic program. People like to sing a lot and it makes the atmosphere at the bar more lively and fun.” said Mr. Zarni. Live band performance is included everyday with different themes on each day. For example, Wednesday is Ladies’ Night where the band will play Blues or classical music that most ladies enjoy.

“There will also be a hostel upstairs but it’s still not ready yet since we have some things left to do with the place.” The hostel will be two-storied above the bar and it is expected to open in mid February.

Winter in Pansodan.

“We target both foreigners and locals, from 25 to 40 years old, since we want to create a place where they can enjoy the nightlife in Yangon with our food, drinks and entertainment.” said the manager.

The bar is open from 4pm till midnight and guests can enjoy Buy 1 Get 1 promotion for beer and classic cocktails from 4pm to 8pm till the end of March.
