BBQ culture has widely expanded in Yangon over the last few years but It’s not very common to see Mandalay style BBQ – however, Ace Bar, a new friendly bar which was just opened on 24th January, brought the concept of Mandalay BBQ to foodies in Yangon. Nevertheless, there is another place called Mandalay BBQ on Wai Za Yan Tar Road which specializes in Mandalay style BBQ so Ace Bar will be the second one to be in the process.
Settled in busy Wai Bar Gi Street in Ahlone Township, Ace Bar is another place to chill with a glass of beer and delicious BBQ. The place was founded by two owners: Kyawt Kyawt Soe and her business partner, Matthew, who is currently away for business. The pair wanted to open a place where the customers can enjoy their time with friends and family while having good food.
“Although it is titled as a bar, the highlight of Ace Bar is the food. We want our customers to come here for the food.” said Kyawt Kyawt Soe, a sweet and humble lady who prepared a variety of dishes for me to taste. “We order the meat directly from Lashio for BBQ and Chinese and Thai cuisines are only available at the moment.” She added.
I had a chance to taste the signature dish of Ace Bar, Mandalay BBQ set, which is large enough for 4 to 5 people to eat at the price of 35,000 Ks. Pork, chicken, cuttlefish, quail eggs, lady fingers and lotus stems are marinated with special paste in Mandalay BBQ style and put on the iron tray with fire below to keep the food warm with sauce on the side. Steamed Mutton and Mantou (Chinese Steamed Buns) are also very demanding Chinese dishes at Ace Bar and she showed me two new menus that they have been preparing for weeks – Fish Kone Bong (9,000 Ks) and Fried Chicken Balls (5,000 Ks) , which were launched in the 2nd week of February.
“You can get beer, wine, liquor and soft drinks at the bar. We don’t serve cocktails at the moment since there aren’t a lot of staff but we are always planning to update our menus to present better options to the customers.”
There are both indoor and outdoor spaces at the bar where you can hang out with family and friends and the bar also hosts events and gatherings. “Since we opened not long ago, there aren’t a lot of customers until now. But we are willing to open many more outlets under Ace Bar once settled.”
Ace bar is open from 4pm to 10:30pm so complement your taste buds with its delicious BBQ and icy cold beers which will perfect your evening.
