On 5th December 2019, the Ministry of Hotel and Tourism proclaimed a list of places that are banned from visiting and need specific authorization to visit for the safety and security of tourists wandering around Myanmar.
The reason, as it is proclaimed, is whereas the travel agents, tourist guides and tourists to follow the demonstrations and to cooperate for the safety and security of the tours.
Regions that are banned to visit for security reasons are as mentioned below;
Kachin State
Pangmati, Nanshelkawt, Monyngu, Sandam, Upper Sangoung, Wahsandam, Zeeyardam villages in Putao Township are banned to visit.
Chin State
Paletwa Township in Chin State is a restricted area.
Sagaing Region
Inn Pauk, Khaungtone, Lay Thar Kone, Butaung, Nantawe, Nantkhin, Nantmar, Moetay and Nar Nant Htun in Baumauk Township are the areas which are needed to get the prior permission.
Titetee, Tagar, Long Mat, Kaesang, Kyandong, Lachan, Long Yone, Kang Kaw, Thangmang and Warnann villages in Nan Yoon Township are also restricted.
Mandalay Region
Mogok Township, Thabeikkyin Township, Pyin Oo Lwin Township and Kyuntaing, Nyaung Tone, Thapyay Chaung, Moe Jyo Pyit , Patikone, Naung Pain, Maetaw villages are permitted only in the downtown areas and outside of which are needed to get the prior permission.
Shan State (Nothern)
Namtu Township and Namhsan Township are permitted only in the downtown areas and outside of which are restricted and banned from visiting.
Shan State (Eastern)
Linke Township, Homain Township , Moenel Township, Keng Tung Township, Kyithe Township, Mine Naung Township, Mine Shue Township, Minesang Township, Mineyang Township (SiLu/ Minephyan Township), Minesat Township (Wanghong/ Sihote/Mineyoon), Minetong Township (Poneparkyin / Huihaw / Monekyut/Monehta), Minetwan Township, Naryaung Township are restricted in Eastern Shan State.
Rakhine State
Ponnagyun, Myauk-Oo, Minpyar townships in Rakhine State and Coco Islands in Yangon region are also not allowed to visit for tourists.
