It’s time to forget the old notion of dining at the hotels is an expensive eatcation. Mercure Yangon Kaba Aye has introduced a new menu at affordable prices starting from this December.
Myanmore had a chance to taste highlights of the new menu presented by the executive chef of MiCasa Restaurant & Bar before it was made to the public. The menu is influenced by western cuisine, with a twist of Southeast Asia dishes, and has a dedicated breakfast section. The prices range from US$5 to $20.
Among the western section, the grilled lamb rack with traditional French ratatouille and mash potato outshines with its exclusive taste. At $16, you can enjoy the succulent ribs with mash potato and vegetables.
If you love beef, the Australian beef tenderloin with broccoli mousseline ($18) is the best option here. The beef goes melt-in-the-mouth-well with velvety broccoli puree. Cherry tomato confits are there to ease the cloying aftertaste.
My favourite is the Myanmar-style pomelo salad with grilled prawns ($7). This sweet-and-sour salad is quite refreshing. The bell peppers and citrus dressing make a great pair with mildly grilled river prawns. If you prefer fish for the appetiser, try smoked salmon platter with various herbs ($10) or savoury fish cake on lemongrass sticks ($6).
If you feel like a fuss-free to fill your belly for a lunch, Singapore Laksa ($10) and Indonesia Nasi Goreng served with chicken satay, prawn and crackers ($11) are legit.
The dessert section aims to satisfy people with different tastes. If you like fancy European pastries, there are Banoffee, Tiramisu and molten chocolate cake with vanilla ice-cream all priced at $5. Go for Semolina cake and banana pudding if you prefer Myanmar snacks. Ice-cream are available in the scoops along with seasonal fruits.
