The Irrawaddy Literary Festival (ILF) returns to Mandalay 9-11 November 2019. The event, in its fifth year, features a mix of local and international authors, filmmakers and playwrights who will give lectures and conduct panel discussions over the three-day festival.

ILF started in 2013 under the leadership of Jane Heyn, the wife of the then British ambassador to Myanmar, and with patron Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. The first event was held in Yangon but has since been hosted in Mandalay, with each year growing in to a bigger and better festival. This year the not-for-profit event is lead by a local committee chaired by Saya U Nay Oke.

More than 100 popular local authors, including Juu and Ponnya Khin, are scheduled to participate in this year’s ILF. As well, more than 30 international authors are involved in the three-day program. The founding principles still hold true, as the festival organizers aim to promote Myanmar literature on a global stage and foster a culture of reading and literary appreciation among Myanmar residents.
