From the 25th until the 27th January, and then again from 1st until the 3rd February, Yangon Pride will be taking over the city in a celebration of Myanmar’s only LGBTIQ festival.
Formerly know as &Proud when it first started as a film festival in the French Institute 5 years ago, the festival has now been re-christened Yangon Pride to symbolise how it has since spilled out onto the city streets, changing the boundaries of the celebration.
The first three days of the festival will include a Drag Night on Friday, a Hero Awards on Saturday and a performance by Jewel and Project K on Sunday all in Thakhin Mya Park. The glittering rainbow jewel in the crown of what promises to be a fabulous weekend will be River Pride, a boat party scheduled for a 1.30pm departure from Botahtaung Jetty.
The second half of the festival will return to its roots at the French Institute and will include film screenings, panel discussions, a cabaret and the chance to dance to the music of AR-T and Pangina Heals.
Tickets for River Pride cost 3,000-8,000Ks and must be bought in advance, however all other event are free.
