Pyin-Oo-Lwin is a hill station that was used as summer capital during the british colonial times. Thus, you will see many colonial houses there.
- Where is it located?
It is situated near Mandalay city. Although Mandalay weather is so hot, Pyin-Oo-Lwin weather is always cool and fine as it is located at the top of the hill. It is also near to the northern Shan State.
- How to get there?
You can go there by bus, train, pick-up taxi and plane.
-by train: You can come from Mandalay, Hsipaw and Lashio.
-by bus: You can easily buy the bus tickets to go to Pyin-Oo-Lwin from some of the cities in Myanmar like Yangon, Myitkyina, Magway, etc.
-by pick-up taxi: You can also take the pick-up taxis in Mandalay to go to Pyin-Oo-Lwin.
-by plane: There is an airport in Anisakhan which is mostly used by the military.
- Transportation
As Pyin-Oo-Lwin is not a very large city, you can easily get around the city on foot or by bicycle. If you don’t want to take a walk, you can hire the old garishly painted horse-drawn Victorian carriages to take around in the city.
- Things to do (Landmarks, Local markets, Attractions)
►Anisakhan Falls: It is a must to go for the ones who love trekking. The sound of falling water and the forest make you pleasant and satisfied.
►National Kandawgyi Garden: the landmark of Pyin-Oo-Lwin. Many species of flowers are displayed in the garden. The flower festival is held every December in this garden.
►Candacraig: the most famous colonial mansion in Pyin-Oo-Lwin. It was built as the guest house of the Bombay Burmah Trading Corporation in 1904.
►Htoo Orange Farm: Many local travelers come there to take the photos with the orange trees and to explore the factory which packages the oranges with the highest technological production method. You can also take a fresh organic orange juice as a free service.
►Nan Myaing Coffee Farm: You can buy the pure Arabica coffee seeds there and it is also a popular spot.
- Eat & Drink
As Pyin-Oo-Lwin is located near to the northern Shan State, you will see many shops that sell Shan and Chinese traditional food. There are also a few Indian and European restaurants.
Among them, December Farm and Restaurant is very popular between the travelers. It sells mainly the dairy foods like yogurt, cakes and you can get the desserts made of strawberry. It is located in the rural area of Pyin-Oo-Lwin. There are strawberry farms in its garden too.
As Pyin-Oo-Lwin is well-known for its coffee seeds, there are many café shops and coffee farms. Don’t miss to drink the Pyin-Oo-Lwin coffee when you arrive there because it tastes so good and its coffee smell will attract you to drink again and again.
- Accommodation
In Pyin-Oo-Lwin, there are a few five-star hotels but you will find many guest houses in the center. The prices are neither cheap nor expensive.
