The Envoy Restaurant & Bar, in collaboration with Mu Ai Kachin restaurant introduced an evening of Kachin dance and food to Yangonites last Saturday. The event was created to help the Internally Displaced Peoples who are victims of the rebel war in Kachin state and funds were collected to support them. The space housed stalls with traditional Kachin dresses, accessories, homeware items as well as local food.

For the $20 tickets, guests were treated to a five course dinner, accompanied by Kachin traditional dances. The delightful menu featured a Kachin savory egg salad, where the eggs had been boiled and pickled with green tea herbs and rice wine, as well as a bamboo and tea noodles with chicken, a fish cake, Malikha char-grilled butter fish with a mint sauce. For the main course, guests were served Kachin braised beef, marinated in herbs and spices with aromatic vegetables. For dessert came the Lung Seng orange mousse cake.

Myanmar ethnic food culture has modernized in the hands of talented chefs and the food served was specially prepared by the guest chef La Roi, who is also running Yangon’s favourite Kachin restaurant Mu Ai Kachin.
