Myanmore Chef of the Year 2018 Orng Joitamoi opens his anticipated new restaurant on Sunday evening (March 11).

Celebrated for his meticulous attention to detail and consistency, Chef Orng of Orng’s Kitchen overcame tough competition in the Myanmore Awards to cement his reputation as one of Yangon’s most exciting chefs.

He has made the move from a small venue to a lakeside setting in 7 miles, 20 minutes away from Myanmar Plaza, where he will serve French fare using local ingredients.

His signature dishes include a confit duck ballotine served with a fried quail egg, apple puree and balsamic reduction, as well as mudfish and wild snails accompanied by home-made gnocchi and the chef’s own beurre blanc.

The menu will be subject to change depending on the availability of seasonal ingredients. During the opening event, guests will be treated to a composition of various canapés paired with wine to showcase the diversity of modern French cuisine. Live music will also complement the evening’s atmosphere.

Chef Orng began his culinary career working as a part time kitchen porter at a small restaurant near Edinburgh in Scotland, UK, while he studied for his undergraduate and masters degrees.

He fell in love with the working environment of the kitchen so much that when his studies had finished, he stayed on in the industry and slowly climbed the ranks.

Starting out as a commis chef at Seafood Restaurant Ondine in Edinburgh, he eventually worked his way up to junior sous chef at the Michelin star Restaurant Castle Terrace. He briefly led his own kitchen brigade in Scotland before returning home to Myanmar in 2016. 

Classically trained in the French style of cooking, Chef Orng has shared his passion and knowledge with his team of young, enthusiastic and talented Myanmar chefs.

His restaurant, opened from Tuesday to Sunday from 11:30 am to 2pm for lunch, and 6pm to 9:30pm for dinner, has already accepted bookings.
