The Myanmore Awards: Dining and Nightlife 2018 celebrated the best in food and drink in Yangon at Melia Hotel on Saturday night.

Many of the country’s top chefs, restaurateurs, business people, artists, musicians, media and more attended the lauded event, with 11 prestigious awards on the line.

The evening was the culmination of weeks of the public voting for their favorite restaurants, bars and cafes online. Over five thousand votes were cast for 549 different venues in the five categories.

The task of whittling that down to just five winners and two runners up in each award was incredibly difficult. But this does demonstrate the extent to which standards are increasing in the industry across the board.

Six new and innovative awards that celebrate special contributions to excellence by individuals and teams were also presented. Nominations for these awards came from both the public and industry and were again judged by an independent panel of industry experts.

Best Myanmar Premium Bar of the Year: 50th Street Cafe Restaurant Bar

Chef of the Year: Min Aung Myat Thu (ORNG Kitchen)

Wine & Spirits Ambassador of the Year: Jen Queen (57 Below)

Newcomer of the Year: Babett Eatery & Bar

Entrepreneur of the Year: Isabella Sway Tin & Htet Myet Oo (Rangoon Tea House)

Green Award of the Year: Nourish Cafe

Special Award for Contribution to Excellence: U Ye Htut Win (Sharky’s)
