The announcement comes days before the MYANMORE Dining and Nightlife Awards 2018.

The 5th annual MYANMORE Dining and Nightlife Awards will be held at the prestigious Meliá Hotel in Yangon on Saturday February 3. This greatly anticipated event is the only awards ceremony in Myanmar celebrating the attainment of excellence in the food and beverage sector, and it is set to be a lavish night of extravagance and celebration.

This year the awards are the most exciting ever, and for the first time the MYANMORE Dining and Nightlife awards will focus its attention on facilitating an environment where the attainment of excellence is supported throughout the year, not just celebrated on an annual basis. A programme of excellence will be launched where award winners will be encouraged to share their knowledge with others to promote the continued improvement of standards whilst developing a culture and ethos of excellence throughout the whole industry.

This year five excellence-based venue awards will be presented. Using feedback received from industry and intensive research, the awards have been improved to be more streamlined and relevant to the growing needs of the dining and nightlife industry with an increased emphasis on the promotion of excellence at all levels.

Members of the public have nominated their favourites online with over five thousand votes cast over the five categories with nominations for 549 different venues. The venues from each category with the most nominations have been compiled into a shortlist, and a panel of independent expert judges is currently conducting thorough and undercover evaluations of these shortlisted venues. Attention is being focussed on three specific areas of excellence: product, environment, and service.

The Venue Excellence award categories are:

  • Restaurant of the year

  • Café of the year

  • Bar of the year

  • Myanmar food restaurant of the year

  • Beer-station of the year

In addition to this, seven new and innovative awards that celebrate special contributions to excellence by individuals and teams will also be presented. Nominations for these awards have come from both the public and industry and are being judged by an independent panel of industry experts.

The Special Contribution to Excellence awards categories are:

  • Chef of the Year

  • Wine and Spirit Ambassador of the Year

  • Newcomer of the Year

  • Entrepreneur of the Year

  • Green award of the year

  • Special award for contribution to excellence

  • Judges special award for the promotion of equality in the industry

The winners of these individual awards will become “MYANMORE Ambassadors of Excellence” – whose standards and qualities will inspire others to aim for excellence. Likewise, award-winning venues will also be profiled as benchmarks of excellence. Winners will be featured in regular print and online articles and exclusive video ‘catch-ups’ throughout the year.

Myanmar Beer will again be a major sponsor of the event and will present the award to the best local bar or beer station. They have supported every MYANMORE awards ceremony since the first back in 2014. Cycle and Carriage, the distributing partner for Mercedes-Benz, Mazda and Fuso are supporting the awards for the first time ever. KBZ will be lending their support for the fourth year running and will be presenting the coveted Entrepreneur of the year award. Meliá will be hosting the awards ceremony and dinner for the first year as venue sponsor.  MYANMORE are also pleased to welcome back another key sponsor this year – Premium Distribution Co., they too have a long history of supporting the awards. Pun Hlaing, Star City, Enchant, Marbled Black Co., The Table & Chair Co., Marco’s Cellar, Sarmal, Apex Gourmet, Ooredoo as our Official Telecom partner and our lifestyle sponsor Training Ground Myanmar are also providing vital support to the awards.

Members of the public that took part in the voting process have been entered into a competition to win some incredible prizes including a pair of flight tickets with Cathay Dragon and vouchers for Meliá Hotel.
