Learning martial arts is not only a great way to get fit but also a cognitive exercise. It involves drilling techniques and putting yourself out of the comfort zone, improving confidence as well as self-defense. Interested in diving into a challenging and healthy new hobby? Then here’s where you can learn to toughen up in Yangon:

BJJ Myanmar

Myanmar’s first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu club, BJJ Myanmar teaches the grappling martial art—one of the fastest growing sports in the world. Utilising body positioning and structure over size and strength, it evolved from the tactics of Japanese samurai and is ideal for smaller people. Chokeholds and joint locks are key. Training often combines techniques for both self-defense and the rules of the sport. Every Monday, Wednesday from 7-8.30pm and Saturday from 3-4.30pm the small group of friendly, welcoming students meet to drill techniques, and the first trial class is free.

    • Hi Wai Yan,

Most ‘boxing’ classes in Yangon are Burmese boxing (or lethwei) and are fitness, not sparing, based. Some gyms offer boxing fitness classes but as far as we know there is no Queensbury boxing school in Yangon. Let us know if you find it!

  1. Hello, I am really interested in a self-defense martial art called Krav Maga, I would be very pleased if I can know where can I train it in yangon. Thanks

    • Hi Patrick. Appreciate the comment. However, I’m afraid there isn’t a krav maga exclusive class in Yangon currently. I would recommend you check out Pearl Condo to see if they still have MMA classes. I heard the instructor knows Krav Maga. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

      Cheers,

  2. Hi, I am looking for a place that teaches traditional jujitsu aka Japanese jujitsu in Yangon? Is there any place you know?
