Amidst the bustling Mahabandoola road in front, The Beat Bar is sure to calm you down with their upbeat music and friendly atmosphere.
The concept of the bar, as shown in the name, revolves around the music—different genres of music ranging from reggae, rock, or international hits. It’s also seen in the decoration where instruments such as banjo or trumpets and music signs such as G Clef or music notes are put up on the wall along with whiskey bottles as light bulbs in industrial chic tone. All the decorations are handmade by The Beat team.
The bar is divided into two zones: smoking zone upstairs and downstairs for non-smoker.
Food wise, Asian cuisines dominate the menu with a mixture of Burmese and Thai, while the rest relies on Western food to cater to every need of customers. If you come with a group of friends, The Beat’s Special (15,000 Ks) is a must order. The portion is generous enough to share with three people. It is a special combination of grilled pork neck, mushed dry-venison, crispy-fried chicken and prawn tempera. It was served on a big bamboo tray with spicy seafood sauce for dipping.
We proceeded to another special, Soup of Chicken Feet with Bitter Leaves (4,000 Ks). The first sip was sour and the bitter and spicy taste kicked in later. It also has the benefit of liver damage prevention. So be sure to order this, before you have your drinks on.
The last that we tried were Sandwich (6,500 Ks), the price can change according to what you have in your breads. They have Tuna and Ham & Cheese. The sandwich is accompanied with French fries and salad. The dish may sound simple but you can feel the cheese melt in your mouth at your first bite.
Served in the real coconut but not coconut juice, it is their signature The Beat’s Tropical Coconut Cocktail (6,000 Ks). It’s rather sweet and juicy, but can easily get you tipsy. You can also switch to pineapple if you prefer. Apart from the cocktails, the bar also offers a wide selection of Australian wine, whiskey, and beer.
For entertainment, they have live band every Friday and Saturday, playing rock, pop and reggae. Open Mic every Wednesday and Ladies’ Night every Thursday.
