With wooden barrels as tables, surfboards as ceiling fixtures, and bright lights that rival the sun, it all screams beach— the Bondi Beach in Sydney, to be exact.

The place is wide and spacious, so the possibilities of what Bondi Bar can offer are endless! For now, you can play billiards and board games, participate in quiz nights, and watch live sports on their big projector screen. They also plan to bring in Nintendo Wii! They have six zones: VIP booths, screening area, cocktail tables, long tables, a smoking area, and pool tables in one corner, making it the destination to chill and hang out.

We ordered the Salt & Pepper Squid (8,000 ks) and the Bondi Burger (13,000 ks). The Salt & Pepper Squid was a good pre-cursor to the burger, with hints of spice and salt, as it prepares you for the sweetness that’s next. There are three amazing things about the Bondi Burger: the patty, the pineapple, and the beetroot. All of them were juicy and in harmony. The fries on the side served as a break from the heavy meat, and you can dip it in their light and fresh homemade ketchup.

We also had four different cocktails: Bondi Flag, Kiwi Margarita, Cosmopolitan, and an Espresso Martini (6,000 ks). The first three are not on the menu, but are available upon request. Two drinks that stood out were the Cosmo and Martini. The bar manager, Sean, created a multi-sensory drinking experience by smoking the fruit in the cocktail. It was the easiest to drink among all four. The Espresso Martini is exactly what you’d expect, the stimulating taste and smell of coffee with the calming effect of liquor. The bartenders of Bondi are well trained and they often join international competitions.

Although it’s only their soft opening, their menu already provides a satisfying array of choices. Bondi has a long-standing branch at Star City, Thanlyin, called Bondi at the 10th where they offer a similar menu. They aim to offer even more dishes and drinks at their grand opening, more than a month from now.

Bondi Bar serves breakfast at 8:00 am, lunch and dinner at 10:00 am, and the kitchen closes for all meals at 10:00 pm, however drinks are served from 8:00 am until midnight. If you’re ever downtown at these hours, don’t go home, because the beach is here! Bondi Bar’s all-day hospitality and entertainment means you can be a beach bum instead of a couch potato.
