FRIDAY

Idiots Go: City-wide // 10am-6pm // FREE

Did you get an odd text from Telenor with the word ‘Idiots’ as the header? That was no insult but a promotion for one of Yangon’s favourite bands! Idiots is having an all day tour this Friday which started at 10am and goes until 6pm.

10am at Botahtaung Jetty, toured around and perform their 2nd album song tracks through Yangon Railway Station, People Park & Square, Taw Win Centre & Junction Mawtin. Special gifts and events for their fans are prepared!

 

Dragonfly Collector Indie Rock Concert: Rough Cut // 7pm-9pm // FREE

Dragonfly Collector is an acoustic indie band from the Philippines, opening acts are along local musicians Marilyn Lynn, Rachel Tayza, and friends from the Gitameit Music School
This show is all about the music, quiet with some floor seating. An alternate vibe compared to the show listed below.

 

No Future, No U-Turn: J-One Music Bar // 8:30pm-11:00pm // 5,000 Ks

One of Myanmar’s original punk, No U-Turn, is holding a banger at J-One tonight. Don’t come if you’re looking to reserve a table, this event will be filled with a youthful exuberance and limited moshing.

Bread Baking Workshop & Picnic w/ Stephanie Chambelant: Governor’s Residence // 8:30am-11:00am // USD $69

On the 6th and 13th of August the Governor’s Residence is offering a bread baking workshop including a lavish picnic with Stephane Chambelant who is a well-known French Pastry Chef and the corporate baker of Belmond in South America. It will introduce you to the artistry and finesse of bread making combined with aromatic Myanmar ingredients a long with a tour to the market. Also it will include a Schubert Wine tasting and a picnic featuring the handmade breads, cheeses and cold cuts selection.

Trash Hero: Inya Lake // 9:00am-12:00pm // FREE

The Yangon Sailing Club will be mobilizing the Standup Paddle Boards (SUP) to pick up trash in Inya lake, and a land team to pick up trash along the shore lines. Spaces will be limited (first 50 volunteers) as they do not have enough boards for everyone so please register first if you wish to join this memorable event! Slam Express Poetry: Pansuriya Gallery // 6:30pm-8:00pm // FREE

“Slam Express” is a movement by a group of young Burmese who love poetry. The poems can be sad, scary, funny, touching, inspiring or all of them. The poems can also be either in English or in Burmese! All are welcome to come and enjoy the spoken word art-form.

This is a public forum where amateurs are welcome to share their poems. However, the schedule is already set, all poems were submitted by July 31st.
