The Goethe Villa has been showcasing the work of photographer, Hans-Christian Schink, and will speak with the audience on 14 June at 7:00pm. Come to hear about his experiences in Myanmar as well as his travels to the most remote parts of the earth where he was exposed to the ways of life and communities that grew from areas of isolation.
Hans-Christian Schink is a German photographer who is renowned in the world of visual arts. He is considered as one of the most important photographers in Germany. He studied photography Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts from 1986 – 1991. Afterwards, he has been in the scene for a number decades. During this time, Schink has won many awards. For instance, he has won a German Photo Book Award for his book “Transport Project”. In addition to that, he has had many exhibitions both solo and communal.
He has photographed many different countries such as USA, Russia, Japan and even Antarctica. This time, however, his photo exhibition is about Myanmar. For that, he has been to Myanmar on four different occasion in order to capture scenes of Myanmar. The concept of the photo series simply titled, “Myanmar”, with images of snapshot aesthetic that may seem like they came from a tourist. Pictures of pagoda, sceneries, villages and colonial buildings. According to Kai Uwe Scheirz, an Arts Professor at Bauhaus University Weimar and the Director of art museums in Erfurt, Schink’s photographs offer a new perspective on what we see commonly see.
The exhibition began on 4 June and will end on 20 June. It is open everyday from 11am to 7 pm. Except for 14 June where Schink will will speak past 8pm.
