Restaurants, Hotels and Indoor Space That Will Be Open For Water Festival
Compiled by Htun Lynn Zaw, Gwan Ho Tong and Min Ye Kyaw
Hotels (Rooftops, Pools, Air-Con)
Since Thingyan is not a popular time for tourism in Myanmar, hotels will be relatively quiet but still open. For those looking to lounge with a cocktail indoors, hotels may be the most comfortable option.
Alfa Hotel’s Sapphire Lounge Rooftop Bar
In short distance of Pyay Road and Downtown, Nawaday Road will be filled with Thingyan celebrators, but the rooftop of Alfa Hotel will not be. The hotel will have few guests but the owners still plan on keeping the Sapphire Lounge fully-stocked with drinks for those who want to be outside and voyeur the festival from a dozen storeys in the air. Food is available downstairs as well.
Sule Shangri-La Hotel
Well-air conditioned with a bar and deli, this will be the most comfortable places to relax after leaving the water play that is bound to consume city hall and the rest of downtown. They are also having Thingyan deals for their rooms and services. $165 for a single room, $185 for a double and $50 complimentary F&B services.
Chatrium Hotel Royal Lake Yangon
This would normally not be recommended during Thingyan since Kandawgyi Lake has traditionally been a major hub for mandats. Recent announcements from the Yangon City Development Committee restricting lakeside stages, however, could make this hotel more accessible. It has a great outdoor pool and bar accessible to non-guest for $20 until 10pm.
They also have a Thingyan Packet for their deluxe rooms at $120 a night, with discounts on their other services.
9 Inya Rd // +951 525 001
A hotel/apartment complex that will be allowing people to stay at a discount during Thingyan. $175 a night is steep, but it comes with full access to pool, gym, spa and dining services.

Many Chain Restaurants
KFC may be the chain restaurant with the most robust presence planned for Thingyan. They organized a parade and will be doing similar promotional activities this year along with their Downtown and Junction Square stores remaining open.
Chatime, a Taiwanese tea & coffee cafe, will keep their Lanmadaw Township (until 10:00pm) and York Street (until 09:00pm) locations open too.
Lotteria, the korean fast-food chain has several outlets but not all will be opened during Thingyan. The branches that will be open are the ones in Pearl Condo (Kabar Aye Road) Chinatown corner of Hledan Street and Mahabandoola Road) and 6 Mile (corner of Kan Street, Pyay Road). They will be all days during Thingyan from 11AM to 8PM apart from 17th April.
