Roof Alchemy has now gone to the next level with the opening of its Level 2 Roof Liquid Alchemy Bar. The Roof Bar has been operating with great success since January 2015 but now expect an expanded and more sophisticated incarnation on the floor below of the same building . Chan Nyein Soe, founder of Roof Alchemy, brought Cocktail Professor on board to create a whole new set of exclusive Signature Experimental Molecular Cocktails. Cocktail Professor is run by a dynamic couple from Amsterdam, Jrl De Vries and Teisje Van Emmerick. The two have been in the hospitality industry for fifteen years, amassing expertise in the development and presentation of experimental molecular cocktails.
Only a handful of cities have one of these bars, and thanks to the foresight of Chan Nyein Soe, Yangon is now one of the few. Each cocktail is unique, tailor-made for Roof Alchemy’s menu, some of which utilize techniques never seen before in the world.
Opening night was packed with the local Myanmar hip crowd, many from the entertainment and film industry. The funk house music was up loud and the lights were low. The new renovation of Level 2 is elegant and comfortable, the whole room being encased in walls of plate glass window. The stars of the night were of course the cocktails. Hits with the crowd included: Test Two, a drink that combined two liquids to react in one drinking vessel. You suck through a tube to see the flavors of vodka/coconut cream & Vodka Chili Watermelon Syrup blend together in an unforgettable taste experience. Another favourite was the Afro Man, a fun presentation of a large head of candy foam, and the Roof Garden where you add a glass of bourbon infused with dark chocolate to a beaker of Lavender foam, jasmine flowers, white chocolate dust and rosemary. The results are spectacular. The most memorable experience may have been the Rain Drop, a shot that slides into your mouth off a fresh leaf – think alcohol (golo slager) oyster!
