WHAT IT IS
Taste Paradise Restaurant, located on the second floor, serves Chinese ala-carte buffet cuisine for dinner at the magnificent Kandawgyi Palace Hotel. Guests have many options to choose from their considerable menu for each course. Expect favourites such as the ubiquitous BBQ Combination where sliced barbecued duck, pork and chicken are served with their respective sauces or the uncommon but equally tasty Fried Crispy Chicken with Tom Yam Mayonnaise sauce to be in the menu. Portions are served according to the number of people making the order so there is no wastage.
ATMOSPHERE
It’s quiet when we arrived. Modern furnishings adorned the restaurant albeit nothing spectacular. There’s a Chinese traditional music to keep us company but we were seated where live music from the lobby could also be heard so our entire meal was a mish-mash of the Beatles and the Chinese classics which wasn’t very appealing. Nevertheless, the staff are commendable with their service. There was an incident where the menu had fallen into our food whilst our server was trying to make space around the table. She took the soiled menu away and moments later re-appeared with a new fresh batch and replaced it. The head supervisor always made his rounds without being intrusive. It wasn’t long before the restaurant filled up yet the service didn’t falter.
RECOMMENDATION
What we appreciated most was that all the food ordered came warm if not steaming hot. The Double Boiled Prawn Wanton Soup with Vegetables especially, was a steaming bowl of clear hot soup with wantons, pineapple and raisins. The Marinated White Fungus was a refreshing, with a good mix of cruchy-ness and a lemony after taste. The roasted duck was a favourite of the night; crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The Deep Fried Banana with honey was worth the wait, as the server had advised that they were made fresh; sweet finish to an enjoyable meal.
