FLAMINGO BAR

Let’s rejoice, party people. There’s a new kid in town.

WHAT IT IS

Londoner Rick Hein has now taken Flamingo Bar under his wing.  A veteran DJ, event organizer and club owner, he’s given the club an edgy, warehouse feel with its rustic look akin to the one he had in London. They play a unique international house music that is rarely heard in the club scene here.

WHERE IT IS

It is situated  within the same compound as The Yangon International Hotel at Ahlone Road. Come through the gates of the hotel and it’s the building on the right on the ground floor. Above it is the Music Box KTV. If you’re still not sure, just ask the security guy at the hotel.

WHY IT’S GOOD

Their line up of international and local DJs play and introduce fresh new sounds. There’s enough dance space to break your moves and a decent sitting area for the less extrovert. The bare walls makes this 300 capacity venue a versatile entertainment area for intimate live music gigs one night and a thumping, clubbing scene the next. It seems their Rehab party on Saturdays has been the talk of the clubbing town. Most party nights have no entry fee. The venue is at a good location with lots of parking space. Hungry? No worries – there’s food available next door after hours. Sweet.

FOOD AND DRINKS

The usual suspects with drinks. Snacks and finger food are available in case you get peckish. They’re looking at spicing up the menu and opening the club earlier soon for their live music nights.

RECOMMENDATION

Cocktail lovers will go ga-ga over their Flamingo Special. It’s a mixture of Malibu, cranberry juice, lime and two other secret ingredients. Two of those and you’re ready to party. A few more and everybody is your friend.

PRICES

For their Rehab Party on Saturday nights The Flamingo Special go for 5500kyats for 2 drinks. Beers and spirits start from 2,000kyats and finger food at 2500kyats. On normal nights expect to pay from 2500kyats for your thirst.

FUTURE PLANS

With Christmas and the New Year around the corner, looks like party- goers will not be getting much sleep. Three different Christmas parties are lined up– The Rehab party, the Black Party, which is the only mixed gay and straight party and they are also in talks with the Belleboys to return and do their thing. A special treat for the New Year Party – they’re flying in a guest DJ.

Coming up soon in the next few weeks is their first Jazz and Blues night and an Indie night alternating every week. Starting in January folks can enjoy weekly Disco night on Sundays.

Where’s the party you ask? It’s right here.
